Writer’s Tag: Get To Know Me

Since I have some new readers on the website I thought it was time to do another meet-the-author post, but here it finally is! Hello! I’m Rachel, the author behind this page. I thought it would be fun to do a writer’s tag that I found and was originally created byLorraine Ambers & Ari Meghlen. Thanks to them for creating this fun tag!

Name one novel that inspired you to write.

I don’t have any novels that I was inspired by. I have favorites, but my love of reading is ultimately pushed me to become a writer.

What’s your favorite genre to write and read?

I’m primarily a fiction reader, so I love to write fictional stories. Ever since I was a child I would write anything from sci-fi to contemporary and even fantasy. I can’t really pick one sub-genre so I’ll pick fiction as a whole.

Do you prefer to write stand-alone or series?

I’m new to the writing game (as far as full-length books), but I would say series. I tend to gravitate towards series as a reader too!

Use 3 words to describe yourself.

Fun, imaginative, and inquisitive.

Reveal your WIP aesthetics or an image that represents your MC or setting.

Here’s a lovely mood board I had a lot of creating for my debut novel. It captures the novel’s summertime setting as well as the main character of the story.

How long did your first MS take to draft?

I’m a slow writer period, I like to take my time. It took me about six months to write the first draft of my book.

Who is your author idol?

I don’t have an author idol per se but one author I look up to is Maya Angelou. Her words are so lyrical in all of her pieces. When she tells stories out loud she has a calming voice that immerses you in each tale.

Share a writing memory that made you determined to carry on.

Hmm….this is a tricky question. I don’t think I have a memory of writing, but being an English major back in college. I remember a point in my junior year when I was so overwhelmed with everything wondered if I should continue with that major and writing itself. It was the support of family and friends that really kept me going at a time when I was struggling with making a big decision.

Tell us something surprising or unique about yourself.

I love dinosaurs so much that when I was younger I wanted to be a paleontologist.

Share the hardest part about being a writer and how you overcame it.

I often get writer’s block or am simply stuck in my own loop of thoughts (and try to talk myself out of concept ideas). To remedy this, I tend to walk away from my piece of work to clear my mind and then come back to it later.

What’s your favorite social media and why? Share your link.

Instagram, I just love the photo aspect of it and trying to make creative photos for it. You can follow my blog insta here, and my author page here.

Share some uplifting wisdom in six words or less.

Your only limit is your mind.

That’s all for now, but stay tuned for more book event news as well as updates about a new novel which is in the works!
