Let’s take a tour of some of the locations I featured in Lost Love which is set in Detroit, Michigan. This novel is a love letter to my hometown and I wanted to showcase some of my favorite places to travel within the city.
Location #1: Detroit Riverwalk
The Detroit Riverwalk connects parks, greenways, and communities along the Detroit River. Currently stretching almost five miles from Gabriel Richard Park on the east to Ralph Wilson Park west of downtown, the Riverwalk allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of the Detroit Riverfront by foot, bicycle, roller skates or any non-motorized method of transportation.
Location #2: Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory
The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, featuring a collection of exotic plants, is one of the most visited and recognizable historic structures in Belle Isle Park and one of the oldest in the United States. The conservatory boasts 13 acres, a formal perennial garden, seasonal floral beds, a lily pond garden and five sections of flora.
Location #3: Detroit Public Library
The Detroit Public Library is the municipal public library system of the City of Detroit in Michigan, United States. It is the second largest library system in t Michigan by volumes held. Designed by Cass Gilbert, the Detroit Public Library was constructed with Vermont marble and serpentine Italian marble trim in an Italian Renaissance style.
Location #4: Belle Isle
Belle Isle Park, a 985-acre island park located in the Detroit River near downtown Detroit, is rich with natural beauty and historical and cultural resources. The park provides spectacular views of Detroit to the North and Canada to the south. Belle Isle Park is the largest city-owned island park in the United States, and Belle Isle is the third largest island in the Detroit River, after Grosse Ile and Fighting Island.
Location #5: Detroit Institute of Arts
Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is an art museum in midtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. It has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the U.S. with over 100 galleries. The DIA is among the most visited art museums in the world. The Detroit Institute of Arts hosts major art exhibitions; it contains a 1,150-seat theatre designed by architect C. Howard Crane, a 380-seat hall for recitals and lectures, an art reference library, and a conservation services laboratory.
I’m working on highlighting some new Detroit locations in my next novel so stay tuned for more information soon!
